Things to Consider When You Repair the Pond
If you have a pond on your property, you want to do everything you can to make sure that it stays in good shape and that it continues to provide you with beauty and enjoyment. Most of the time, your pond will need to have very little in the way of pond repair and maintenance, but even the best ponds may need some help on occasion. There are many different types of potential problems that could arise with your pond, so it is a good idea to have a basic understanding of what could go wrong and what you need to repair for the pond.
Problematic Pumps
When you notice a large amount of debris on the water and when the PH levels are showing signs of trouble, you might have a problem with one of your pumps. Take the time to examine the pump to make sure it is working properly, and clean out any debris that might become clogged in it. If you are still having issues with the pump, a simple repair for the pond might be replacing the pump.
While you might not like the idea of buying a new pump, it tends to be an easier solution than constantly trying to fix it. A replacement can save you time and frustration, and you can be sure it is a better option for the fish and plant life that you have in the pond.
Slipping Liners
You probably have a plastic or rubber liner for your pond. When the earth shifts or when there is erosion, there is a chance that the liner could slip out of place. It might not be something that you even notice with the naked eye depending on how you have your pond set up. You simply notice that you have less water in the pond than usual. This doesn’t mean it is a liner break. If the liner slipped, the water could be exiting the pond in that location. Simply placing the liner back where it belongs is one of the simplest ways to repair the pond.
Cracks and Leaks
However, sometimes the repair to the pond is going to be a bit more problematic. You might find that you have a leak caused by a crack or a hole that is in the liner itself. This will require that you remove the water, as well as the fish and plants, from the pond. You can then use patching kits to repair the holes, making sure to check for multiple holes so you can take care of all of them at the same time.
Animals and People
Sometimes, the cause of the leak is due to animals or even people. If you have a small pond that attracts other wildlife, you might find that they are drinking from it or splashing around in it, which can cause the water levels to drop. People in the family might even be splashing in the pond when they shouldn’t!
Look for these potential problems so you can have a better idea of what you need to do to repair the pond the right way.
